At The Top of The Heap

Today is my father’s birthday and I find myself mentally visiting my childhood home. I think it is common to feel the presence of two worlds while traveling. The time shift is felt as I contemplate calling home and reflect upon daily routines there.

We had a light breakfast at the Lemon Tree Hotel and then traveled via van to Basavanagudi to visit the Bull Temple.

For my research project I have chosen to look at how India addresses its environmental problems compounded by a quickly growing population. While in Bangalore I observed many issues including a tremendous amount of litter on the street. Admittedly the sight of continued discarded trash items has begun to wear upon my very essence. Having taught and been immersed in environmental education for the past 15 years, I find it difficult to walk over, through, and past the trash. Are there practices and regulations in place to help with the problem, or has India turned a blind eye on the trash heaps? Throughout my journey I will be looking for evidence of positive change and influence on environmentally friendly practices.
